Summer Solstice: Sobriety, Strength & Sunlight

Bask in this blessed light, lie amidst daisies and sand. Sun Enlivening.
— Charlotte Brontë

The Summer Solstice is here—the longest day of the year and a moment when Earth leans in, tilting closest to the sun. It’s a cosmic pause; a fire-soaked invitation to celebrate energy, clarity, and courage. In the northern hemisphere, this is our peak light. Our zenith. A glorious moment to honour growth, transformation, and the inner fire that fuels our sober path.

For many of us in midlife, this super social season once meant barbecues with bubbles, festivals soaked in Prosecco, and nights lost to rosé. This time used to go hand in hand with alcohol, and despite the crashing hangovers and dehydration that tends accompany possibly a much smaller amount now, sobriety is still a big deal in our alcohol-centric culture—so it’s no small thing to sit in the sun today, sober and strong. To honour the choice we’ve made, and the freedom we’ve reclaimed.

Sobriety is a solstice of its own.
It is a bold choosing of the light.
It is a rising. A reframe. A ritual.

Midlife brings its own complex beauty—perimenopause, reflection, reinvention, and the soul-deep questioning of “What now?” But in the centre of all this, we find our own personal power again. Sobriety is not just about not drinking—it’s about saying YES to something greater. It’s clarity. Boundaries. Resilience. It’s the inner summer we’ve been seeking all along.

☀️ A Sobriety Solstice Reflection

Take a pause today. Lie in the grass. Watch the sky burn gold. Let the sun kiss your skin and take a moment to really feel into where you are right now.

Use the fire of this day to reflect on your sober journey:

  • What were my wins this season?

  • What challenges did I overcome?

  • What am I most proud of?

  • How will I honour myself for this?

  • What is my sober power mantra right now?

  • What passion have I reignited that I will carry into summer?

  • If I secretly knew the answer to my next step—what would it be?

  • Because I was sober this week, I...

This is the time to bask in your own glory. You’ve worked so hard to shift patterns, reframe summer, and show up for yourself. You’ve said no when it was hard. You’ve chosen presence. You’ve embodied power.

🔥 Summer Solstice Sun Ritual

Let this be more than reflection—make it sacred. Create a ritual that marks this midpoint. Simple is perfect.

  • Light a fire or candle

  • Dance in the kitchen with the windows open

  • Watch the sunset and whisper your mantra into the evening breeze

  • Write your wins in a journal or voice-note them to future you

  • Create a “Sober Summer” altar with flowers, stones, symbols of freedom

Whatever you do, honour the light that’s within you—and the light you are choosing every day.

We are golden, friends.
We have gone against the grain.
We are sovereign. We are sober.
We are rising.

With fire and love,

Kate x
